From the moment that Donald Trump won re-election last year until precisely two Tuesday nights ago,

when the scale and sweep of the Republican wipeout in this year's off-year elections became clear,

Democrats had spent nearly every waking moment puzzling over how to win back the voters that they had lost in 2024,

losses that ushered in the horror show of Trump 2.0.

It wasn't just one demographic group that had slipped away, African Americans, Hispanics,

white working class voters. The party had lost ground with all of them, but the group that got

the most attention because, in fact, the erosion among that group was the most dramatic,

was young men.

And as the party search for answers as to how to win that group back, Pat Ryan's phone started ringing off the hook. Pat Ryan is the 43-year-old fourth-term congressman

representing New York's 18th district, which sits upstate in the heart of
