All right, man, we're getting some good stuff today.

0:16.3

Good questions.

0:17.1

Okay, here we go.

0:17.9

From Tortog, our friend, gospel piano uses a lot of passing chords.

0:22.5

Can you talk about passing chords? Okay, so let's talk about passing chords specifically in gospel, I would say.

0:28.8

Sure. And as much as people ask me about gospel, it's like, man, you got gospel, gospel. I've never studied gospel in the way that I would like to actually.

0:40.2

And so I'm not an expert on, I mean, I can play some of this stuff, especially as it's sort of

0:44.9

infused more in the jazz and blue stuff that I play.

0:48.7

0:55.3

things that I hear are like, you know, so we're on a G, right? Let's say we're going to go to the four.

1:06.7

Here's the four. So that's blues and it's also kind of gospel because of the way I'm voicing it, right?

1:22.8

So it's like, there you go.

1:25.1

Ah.

1:29.2

So that's just the walk-up, right?

1:30.6

And so that's definitely gospel.

1:35.0

So you're going two, and this is all diatonic, and then to the four.

1:37.7

But then, like, one thing... So then you're going, instead of G over B, you're going like i'm only adding one note which is the e flat because

1:47.6

so it's like a e a b a b altered b a b7 sharp 9 flat 13 so you've got you got all these different

1:57.4

like this is obviously a passing chord position. You're going from B to C.

2:01.0

So like what are the things you can do?

...
