From the series, "Eating & Drinking" as part of Practicing the Way. In the last teaching on the practice of eating and drinking, we go back to the Hebrew ideas of animal sacrifice and covenant meals to better understand God's design and intention for communion. Since the fall, God has been longing for intimacy with his creation and through the altar he provided a way to the table.

It's probably not news to any of you guys to hear that in this fast-paced digital age,

even though we seem more connected to people online than ever before, there's actually

many who feel desperately lonely.

Actually psychologists are calling this moment in the West a loneliness epidemic.

So Teresa, years ago, actually said loneliness and the feeling of being unwanted is the most

terrible form of poverty.

She went on to say, the greatest disease in the West today is not TB or leprosy.

It's being unwanted, unloved, and uncared for.

So maybe you even saw that in the recent A New York Times article that across the pond
