Summary

The third and final interview segment with Sam Vaknin is perhaps the most triggering, as we discuss the concepts of victim, victimhood, and being victimized by a narcissist. We also analyze Sam's view on victimization and victimhood as new social trends and part of the tribalism we live in nowadays.

What You Will Learn In This Episode:

- What happened to us is not what we are

- Why people idolize, perpetuate, and glamorise being a victim

- The danger of the self-styled empaths

- How to love yourself, trust your gut, and not abuse your abuser

When we grow up hearing things like we are not good enough or our parents find us helpful only as victims, then our self-esteem is low and we understand there is no other way than victimhood to get favourable outcomes from our environment. However, in order to heal, we must allow ourselves to be loved for who we are, and not for what happened to us.

So like I've mentioned before in the first two weeks,

0:39.6

I interviewed Sam, which was going to be maybe a 45-minute interview, which turned into nearly

0:44.8

two hours. So I wanted to split this into three parts for you so that you could take your time,

0:50.4

you could listen. Obviously, if you feel activated in any way, you can bring awareness to that and explore and go within.

0:57.3

And remember, Sam is the author of Malignant Self-Love, so Narcissism Revisited.

1:03.3

He was really the founder of narcissistic abuse recovery as well.

1:07.6

So there's a lot of, you know, those of you who read all about Sam,

1:11.4

he's a really, really interesting character, extremely intelligent. And obviously, if you followed

1:18.1

him on YouTube or Instagram, you'll know obviously who he is, what he is. And the beautiful

1:25.0

thing I felt about our interview is how respectful it was, how it was just

1:30.3

like we were having a cup of tea with each other and I was asking in questions because I was

1:34.7

genuinely so interested in his responses and his answers. And a lot of the stuff I agree with

1:40.3

him and there were things that I didn't agree with him. You know, I'm always approaching things

1:44.0

from that trauma-informed lens and particularly lots of the stuff that you will hear a little

1:49.2

bit from part two and also in today around victimhood. And I think many of you may find that

1:55.5

triggering. And I hope when you hear, you can look at it through Sam's lens of what he is trying to say with that.

2:02.7

And also my responses to all of that and how I view that, that word victimhood as well and sort of this badge of honor that those who've been victimized by narcissists kind of have and maybe never go on to heal. So I know that can be quite
