Summary

I have a new bucket list item: I want to go to Uganda and meet Josh’s mom! What a woman. Josh Poro is a pastor and father from Uganda that has been living here in my town of Colleyville for the last 7 years. I was curious to chat with him about what “parenting” looks like in Uganda vs America.

Sometimes, I need to shake things up in my life and get out of the bubble I am living in. I like to listen to unique podcasts or watch compelling documentaries to expand my mind. This is the purpose of this episode. I wanted Josh to shake up our Western view of Christianity and parenting in a way that challenges us.

My favorite part is when he talks about the power of prayer. He challenges us in America to pray longer and bolder. And to keep praying for our children again and again. If you’d like to see more of Josh’s sermons - visit his YouTube channel (Kingdom INSights Ministries - Apostle Joshua Poro).

Enjoy!

Courtney

Hey friends, welcome back to Part of the Mess.

0:15.2

I'm your host, Courtney Defeo, and I'm so glad you're here on this December day,

0:19.5

or maybe you're listening to it later down the

0:21.6

road because December's crazy. But Ron and I were reflecting back. So December 1st was three

0:28.1

years that we found out that Ron had pancreatic cancer. And it's a miracle story. I will share

0:34.8

somewhere, I guess maybe online, maybe on social media. I'll send you the

0:39.2

live that we did talking about kind of his journey, but he's alive and he made it. And it really did

0:45.5

shift my perspective about Christmas. It's like, you know, being in the hospital at Christmas,

0:50.5

he had a major surgery. It was really hard. And there's so many families out there right now

0:55.3

that are going through something really, really tough, whether they're in the hospital or they've just

1:00.1

lost a parent. And so let's just pray today that God would bring to mind someone in your community

1:06.1

or neighborhood that's having a really not fun Christmas. And they just need someone to reach out to them and bring them a meal or just pray for them or let them know you're thinking of them. And then Ron and I also have a heart now for all the nurses and doctors and staff that show up and work at the hospital. I mean, it was like a ghostland. I went down to try to find a trick-flay sandwich and everything was closed.

1:28.4

And we were like, we got to feed these people. So the last couple of years, Ron and I have taken a bunch of food over to the hospital where he was treated and just loving on the staff that took good care of us. But that was just on my heart today. So maybe in our honor, in Ron's honor, and just for all the people that took care of them.

1:44.5

Let's just say a quick prayer in your heart just about maybe in our honor, in Ron's honor, and just for all the people that took care of him,

1:44.5

let's just say a quick prayer in your heart just about, Lord, bring someone to mind that is

1:50.6

really struggling this Christmas that we can step in and bring a little joy or practical

1:54.6

support. But today's episode is with my friend Josh Porro. And he is from Uganda, but has been here in the U.S. seven years.

2:02.8

And I've heard him speak at our church before and seen him as one of the worship leaders.

2:07.0

And I didn't really know his story. But the one time I did hear him speak, I was like, whoa,

2:12.3

who was his mom? Why is he such a good pastor? And you could just feel literally the fire of the Holy Spirit
