Summary

Dr Emma Svanberg, also known as the “Mumologist”, has worked with parents and families for over 20 years and qualified as a Clinical Psychologist in 2009. Dr Svanberg has worked in a number of different mental health settings but specialises in the perinatal period – the time around pregnancy, birth and the early years of parenthood, and has a particular interest in attachment, trauma and the intergenerational roots of our problems.

when I knew that I was going to be having this conversation with you today.

My mind was overflowing with topics, discussions, questions,

because I myself, I'm a mother and a stepmother. I love children. I love

parenting. I love everything that goes with it. So the chaos, the fun and what I call the

colorful life that is parenting. So if I go to a big family party or when I was a wedding last

year, I'm usually the one who's gathering the kids

together. I'm lining them up. Let's play a game. Let's play pretend. My friends always joke. They're

like, yes, Adrienne's here. She is the one who can match the kids energy and she can actually

tire them out. So yeah, they're always pleased to see me at a wedding. They're like, yes, she's going to take care of the kids. But parenting, of course, also presents many challenges.

So especially I think as you go through the different stages, so as your children get older,

they're all so unique, they have different interests, different temperaments, they each respond to different things.
