He is in Panama City.

He's reporting on the phenomenon, the crisis,

the world historical fact that hundreds of thousands of people

from all across the canvas, especially the global south,

are making their way to the Darian gap,

have been making their way to the Darian gap for at least the last two years.

Hundreds of thousands.

The estimate this year is more than 400,000 by the end of the year.

The estimate for last year is more than 200,000.

Why? Because from the Darian gap,

it is an arduous but possible journey by bus, by foot, by crook,

by spending time in a Mexico City jail,

to get to the Texas border and claim asylum because you're persecuted.

You get an asylum, court date, and you enter into the United States.

Hundreds of thousands.

But right now, Michael's in Panama City,

and I asked him to reflect on where we were two years ago,

when first he and his colleagues reached the Darian gap

and traveled into the Darian gap by Doug out canoe by foot.
