Summary

On today’s Motivation Monday episode, Pamela Jett reveals research showing that the happiest people in organizations aren’t lucky — they’re intentional. Drawing on the Foster & Hicks study, she explains how these “spark” people consciously choose happiness each morning, use the brain’s most receptive hour for positive programming, and build resilience despite life’s challenges. Her message: happiness isn’t accidental — it’s a daily decision.

And I want to play it today because it's Monday. And I know a lot of us wake up on Monday morning and we're like, it's Monday. I got five days. I can't wait for it to be Friday. It's going to be such a terrible day. It's going to be such a terrible week. And when we do that, when we think that way, when we believe that way, we tend to set up what's called a self-fulfilling prophecy.

If you think it's going to be a bad week, it's going to be a bad week.

Our very first success tip comes from a very interesting research study that was done by two gentlemen by the name of Foster and Hicks.

1:50.2

They did something really fascinating.

1:52.4

They went into organizations just like yours and they asked people, who's the happiest person that you know?

1:58.4

And people would say, well, it's Bob or it's Bill or it's Susie. And then they kept asking more and more people, who's the happiest person that you know? And people kept saying, well, it's Bob or it's Bill or it's Susie. And a pattern emerged. Certain people tend to stand out in organizations as having that spark, that vitality, that happiness that tends to come from within. So here's what the researchers did that was fascinating to me.
