with transparent courts. All of that is the legacy that we inherited in the United States

of America. The United Kingdom is also in history, the center of the British Empire, and

upon a time, British Empire stretched around the world, including the subcontinent at that time,

the vast landscape of India, subdivided by decision in the mid-20th century into Pakistan and India.

Now we go to the story of Pakistan in the United Kingdom, because we're looking at a legacy

story of the understanding of what is blasphemy and what is the proper conduct towards the Quran,

towards religious worship. Saddenan Dumay of the American Enterprise Institute writes for the

Wall Street Journal editorial page, and he's here to introduce us to a subject that is not about

the 20th century. It's about the 21st right up to date. That is blasphemy laws in the United Kingdom,

if I understand correctly. Saddenan, a very good evening to you. The incident you begin with is

heartbreaking. In West Yorkshire, students scuffed a Quran belonging to an autistic 14-year-old boy.

Scuffed, that's it. What happened to them? Good evening to you. Very good evening, John. Yes,

so the incident occurred in last month where the students accidentally scuffed Quran

belonging to this 14-year-old autistic boy who had brought it into school because apparently he

lost a bet over a video game. You know how it just something that 14-year-olds do.

And this became a major incident where four students from the school were suspended.

And then there was a meeting that was captured on video where the boy's mother went to a mosque

and she was flanked by an Imam and the local police chief and the head teacher of the school.

And she had to apologize profusely for the incident and had to essentially beg for forgiveness

for her son. And that's because her son and some of the other students had been receiving

debt threats over this accidental scuffing of a Quran. As far as I can tell, what seems to have
