Michelle Kashat spent her life checking boxes, doing what good Christian girls do.

And she believed that was why God loved her.

She wouldn't say that, of course, but then one thing after another went horribly wrong,

leaving her struggling with questions like, is God real?

Does he care about me?

How do you hold on to faith when it feels like faith is gone?

Tell me a little bit about your growing up years and what your faith was like then.

My parents grew up in homes where faith was not a regular part of their childhood.

So my mom's family would take the kids to church maybe twice a year for Easter and Christmas.

My dad's family, his stepmom, was an organist at a local church.

And so he would sometimes go to church with her when she played the organ.
