Summary

Amy & Paul bear their souls for 2017’s kind and polite comedy Paddington 2! They applaud Hugh Grant’s villainous turn, draw parallels to the physical comedy of Chaplin and Keaton, and analyze Paddington creator Michael Bond’s politically progressive writing. Plus: is Rocky Balboa the American Paddington Bear? Next week, our Heroes series continues with Blade! The year is 2017 and just like my Aunt Lucy said, if you're kind and polite, the world is right and the same holds true for any comments about this show on social media.

The movie, Paddington 2.

0:34.0

Hello everyone and welcome to on Spooge. I'm Amy Nicholson.

0:41.0

And I am Paul Sheer and this is the podcast where we are trying to find the hundred best movies ever made and we are currently in the middle of our summer series of heroes and what better hero than a little bear named Paddington.

0:56.0

Today we're talking about Paddington 2. Last week we talked about Supercop and there was a lot of interesting debate on Supercop, a lot of talk about Jackie Chan's work and I'm still feeling the repercussions of RRR.

1:12.0

People are continually reaching out to me. I see this movie spreading. I believe this is going to be the underground hit of the summer. Amy.

1:21.0

RRR? Yes. Absolutely. Sure.

1:28.0

And now I also have to say that we are in the middle of the summer box office right now. Maverick is still going very strong hero.

1:36.0

We're talking about the heroes of Jurassic Park Dominion. Are they all heroes? I guess.

1:43.0

We're talking about the heroes of minions, rise of groove. Oh, we haven't even gotten to that yet. We are waiting very much, embaded breath over here about minions. Probably by the time you hear this, minions will be out and I will be front and center.

1:58.0

But we did go see the new Buzz Lightyear movie, which I think you and I both really like but I've seen the reaction to be pretty mixed.

2:08.0

And I wanted to talk to you about it briefly because that is a hero. I don't think the movie is worthy for this series or even really for a recap episode.

2:15.0

But I just wanted to kind of hear what you thought about it because I kind of enjoyed it as far as a very simple space movie.

2:22.0

You know, I kind of enjoyed it too. And I want to talk delicately. So I'm not spoiling it for people who haven't had a chance to see it yet.

2:29.0

But it is trying to be one of those ways that like questions the purpose of the hero is the is the heroes idea of what a hero is truly what a hero should be.

2:38.0

I thought it did a decent job of taking maybe like my favorite 30 seconds of all picks are and then turning that into like the premise of a movie.

2:47.0

And then I think the second being like the montage of up where everybody gets old very, very fast and you get to see the arc of a life like that is somehow the underpinning of light year, which I was not expecting in the slightest when I went down to sit into it.

3:00.0

Also pretty good cat character for Pixar.

3:03.0

I would say an anti cat production company and yes, the cat is a robot technically not quite a cat in their last cat human technically not quite a cat.

3:12.0

And this is the issue with cats, but good cat. I see the cat is trying to sell toys. I'm OK with that cat selling toys.

3:19.0

Well, here's my question, Amy. If I'm Andy and this is not a spoiler, but the first thing you see is a title that comes up that explains that 1995 Andy saw this movie.

3:29.0

And that's where he fell in love with Buzz Lightyear and my big question was if I'm Andy and 1995 I'm not asking for buzz. I'm asking for socks. I want socks the cat.
