| 0:00.0 | This is the Friends Minister debating society. I'm John Batsu with Jeff Bliss is specific watch on location at the Civic Theater in San Diego. |
| 0:08.0 | The night of a big show for Britt Floyd, Jeff is the director of photography for Callie magazine as well as the entertainment editor. |
| 0:16.0 | So he's wearing three hats here. We're going to start with the entertainment part. |
| 0:21.0 | The question is the SAG after strike. Are there any pickets in San Diego? Are they picketing this weekend? Good evening to you, Jeff. |
| 0:29.0 | Good evening, John. There are no pickets here in San Diego. All the pickets are primarily either in Los Angeles or a few in New York. |
| 0:37.0 | They decided that they were not going to pick it during the weekend and my understanding is that's because nobody would be really be there at the studio offices or the headquarters or places like Netflix. So it wouldn't do them any good. |
| 0:48.0 | But they were also very concerned because we're experiencing quite a heat wave here in the West and Southwest. |
| 0:53.0 | And there have been a number of people that have succumbed to the heat. So they didn't want that to be hanging around them as well. |
| 0:59.0 | So that's been the case here. But nothing along those lines here in San Diego about the biggest thing in terms of SAG after and the writers guild strike in San Diego is they have their annual Comic Con convention, which is not just science fiction, a comic books. |
| 1:12.0 | But it's a way for studios to come and talk about new TV shows and movies that are coming out that bring their actors and it's they get quite a turnout and generates hundreds of millions of dollars in revenue for San Diego. However, because of the strike that looks to be in jeopardy. |
| 1:25.0 | It looks like if they get anybody at all down here from the studios, any actors, it's going to be very watered down. |
| 1:32.0 | So Comic Con is at risk. Is that at the civic theater or the other big, the big place, the civic center? Where is it? |
| 1:39.0 | That's at the convention center, which is right down near the water. Beautiful, beautiful facility have in there a number of times. And yeah, that's that's going to those folks down there, all those restaurants, all the tourist spots are going to be hurting if it doesn't happen. |
| 1:50.0 | Jeff, are these the things where the fans dress up as characters and parade around? Is that what Comic Con does? |
| 1:58.0 | Quite often you do have those people turn out. They have contests that people walk around all day. And it's even funny because some of the stars and stars from Star Trek and other, you know, sci-fi shows have shown up in costumes and sometimes with masks and not been recognized first by fans. But yeah, it's a big deal. It's a kind of a, you know, almost a week long Halloween party featuring sci fi or another TV shows at the convention center. |
| 2:23.0 | Now you're at the civic theater for Brit Floyd, the actress tonight. There's time to get there if you're in LA or Guadalajara or there's always helicopters. What is the, what is the performance tonight, Jeff? What is it going to celebrate? |
| 2:37.0 | Well, Brit Floyd is a tribute band for lack of better term that, you know, they play the music of Pink Floyd, which has been disbanded for a number of years now. But their music is still in great demand, whether as in radio or recording. |
| 2:50.0 | And certainly there's several big tribute bands. They're one of the top two that play around the world. And they're on a California tour right now. |
| 2:58.0 | And I came down here to do an interview with Scott Page, who is the saxophonist for Pink Floyd. And they asked him to sit in because he's here in California. So I'm kind of killing free birds with one stone. He's appointed out getting to see them a story on them during one on Scott. |
| 3:13.0 | And then being here part in San Diego to observe what's going on in this city. |
| 3:17.0 | Switching hats for Decan bliss. Can you see the water and the Navy from where you are? |
| 3:22.0 | If I'm if I get to an elevated position outside the theater, I can see the Coronado bridge, which is where, you know, part of the Navy bases. That's where the seal bases over there on Coronado. |
