This is the Friends of History Debating Society. I'm John Batchel with Jeremy Zakis.

He's got a whopper enough at Valerie. I mean, really, this is a global story, especially because

where in the world was Valerie? But now, Jeremy, do I read this correctly? Australian cricket

stars narrowly escape missile strike in Pakistan? What? Explain yourself, Mr. Zakis.

You read it exactly correctly, John, and this is a very Aussie thing. We're nomadic. We like to be

where there's adventure and excitement. And it turns out that some of our highest paid cricket

stars like to also be where two countries basically go at each other with ballistic missiles and

fairly high-end weaponry. So what the story is, John, as it turns out that during the entire

tensions between India and Pakistan, we actually had a substantial number of our senior Australian

cricket team on both the Pakistan and the Indian side of the border.

And what happened was the team members that were on the Pakistan side of the water,

actually playing for the Pakistan Super League and getting into some of the local competitions there.

They narrowly miss being hit by some of the missiles coming in from India during one of the recent exchanges.

And not only were they narrowly missed, it was so dire that the Australian cricket board

actually had to charter a jet to go in and rescue them.

So as we speak, John, Australians are now, well, they've been picked up out of Pakistan,

being picked up out of India because it turns out too, we had a lot of Australians also in the Indian Premier League,

which also has been affected now by the attacks and by the tensions,

and they've been safely moved out to Dubai.

But honestly, John, I know cricket, it is our national pastime.

It's one of our most fervid sports events,

but the reality is it turns out
