Summary

It wasn't pretty. The home crowd booed their top-25 team at times as the No. 17 Fighting Irish squad got off to a sluggish start. But Notre Dame (3-1) got enough done to fend off Miami-OH (0-3), winning 28-3 after trailing early. The game had its highs--QB Riley Leonard threw a 38-yard touchdown pass and added a 50-yard touchdown rush on the ground-- and it had its lows in the form of a muffed punt by WR Jordan Faison. But, the Irish defense was able to force two turnovers and held veteran QB Brett Gabbert to 119 yards on 14/35 passing. After the game, Irish Illustrated's Tim Prister and Tim O'Malley were joined by Irish Illustrated Contributor John Brice of Football Scoop as they reviewed Notre Dame's 28-3 victory over Miami-Ohio and previewed Notre Dame's season-defining game against Louisville. Not a great start when you have three-out, turnover on downs on a

muffed field goal attempt in a three-and-out, it is going to make some diehard fans a little bit upset,

especially when it's the first time you've been home since losing in a similar fashion.

Well, and it was also the fact that there were a couple of layup throws in there that Riley Leonard just flat out missed.

And he made it clear postgame.

He knew he flat out missed them.

They were layup type throws.

It was very clear.

Mike Denbrock was calling stuff early to try and help Riley Leonard get his confidence up.

0:51.3

That didn't happen.

But as is so often the case right now, Notre Dame's

defense took over. Riley Leonard ended up having a very good statistical game. I was joking with

somebody on the elevator and I got different responses. What happens when I make Riley Leonard

the obvious offensive MVP of this game where Riley Leonard was the offensive issue early in the

game. But when you run for 143 yards and two touchdowns, you throw a touchdown test to Bo Collins.

1:15.2

You don't throw an interception and your early turnover is after a 44-yard gain sprinting over the left side.
