Summary

Dr. Owen Strachan and Dale Thackrah, Executive Pastor at Redeemer Bible Church in Arizona, discuss the issue of angry men and how to help them. They explore the factors that contribute to anger in men, such as fatherlessness, broken homes, and unmet desires. They emphasize the importance of understanding the gospel and finding freedom in Christ as a way to address anger issues. They also caution against the dangers of Christian nationalism and the pursuit of political power as a means to bring about change. Instead, they advocate for a focus on personal transformation and living out the gospel in love and forgiveness.

One of the most fascinating figures in the Old Testament to me is the warrior Joab. He was David's

right-hand man. He led numerous military campaigns, a man of tremendous courage and military skill, no doubt

blessed and used of God in all sorts of ways to advance the righteous reign of King David. But there's

0:31.6

a catch because Joab didn't really know when to let the axe handle drop. In fact, at one point in 2nd Samuel 19,

0:41.1

David says this about Joab and his associates. What have I to do with you, you sons of Zeroyah,

that you should this day be as an adversary to me? Shall anyone be put to death in Israel this day? What you're hearing

there in 2 Samuel 19, verse 22, is a king who himself has been called to lead in military campaigns,

but is weary of bloodshed. How does that relate to today? How does that relate to 2024? Well,

welcome to grace and truth. My name is Owen Strann. I will be your host. Today on the podcast,

I am joined again, a now two-time guest by Dale Thackerah. He's a pastor at Redeemer Bible Church

in Gilbert, Arizona. He's a great friend of mine. He's just a terrific man,

1:28.9

and he's a very wise brother and wisdom. Just a quick word here. Wisdom is undervalued in a very

1:34.0

serious way, but we're reminded of the old King James rendering of wisdom with all you're getting,

1:40.1

get wisdom. So Dale, thank you for sharing your wisdom on the podcast today. I'm very thankful to be

1:45.2

here, Owen. You're a special person to me, a good friend to me, and to our church, and we love you very

much. Well, I feel the same way. I really do. And I am so thankful to talk with you for a second

1:58.2

episode about men. As we were discussing there just a minute ago, I'll

2:04.4

frame it this way. Anger and a spirit of fighting is not alien to the pages of Scripture.

2:12.7

There's all sorts of men in Scripture who struggle with anger and who exert their anger on others. And

2:20.8

there's all kinds of bad consequences toward that end. Dale, I think today, I want to hear

2:26.0

from you, I think today that we are kind of in the age of the angry man. That's not the only way

2:32.2

men struggle. I've written a book right here. It's called
