Summary

Here is the simple truth about fear: the worst possible outcomes that hold us back almost never come to fruition. Our fears are manufactured stories, and just as they have come to be, they can be torn out at the roots.

Similar to jumping into a cold pool, overcoming fear is about increased exposure to a stimulus, and in this episode I discuss a few ways to internalize and acclimate to discomfort so that it can work for us, not against us.

But then your body acclimates.

0:58.5

And pretty soon you're moving throughout the water with any, without any discomfort at all, right?

1:04.2

Because increased exposure to that stimulus has changed your reality. It's changed the way you think about it,

1:12.6

and it's changed the actual situation. And that's essentially applicable to everything we fear.

1:23.1

As I mentioned last week, the scariest thing is not the actual outcome, right?

1:32.4

It's how our brain perceives it.

1:35.1

And so almost like training a dog, right?

1:38.5

Growth is tricking your mind into accepting a stimulus.

1:43.5

And so there are a lot of ways to do this.

1:45.8

I've been referencing Tim Ferriss a few times.

1:49.4

You know, another cool trick from that four-hour workweek that I loved was, you know, lying down on a crowded sidewalk.

1:57.2

Same exact concept as the pool.
