Today's scripture offers us a wiser way of being human as we step into the day.

You know that feeling when you wake up feeling like you're already behind?

Before your feet hit the floor, there are messages to answer, people to care for, decisions to make,

deadlines to meet, problems to solve., decisions to make, deadlines to meet,

problems to solve. Someone needs your help. Something needs your attention. Someone needs your emotional support. Someone needs you to show up, respond, decide, fix support, lead, comfort,

or explain. And if you're a caring, responsible person, those needs matter to you. But there is a difference

between compassion and being controlled by demand. Today's passage gives us a glimpse of Jesus when

everyone was looking to him. There were real needs. There were hurting people. There was

ministry to be done, and yet Jesus does

something surprising. He withdraws to pray. As you hear this passage, listen for the way Jesus

stays connected to God, even when the crowd is urgent. Today's scripture is Mark 1.35 through 39. Very early in the morning while it was still

dark, Jesus got up, left the house, and went off to a solitary place where he prayed. Simon and his

companions went to look for him, and when they found him, they exclaimed, Everyone is looking for you. Jesus replied,

Let us go somewhere else to the nearby villages so I can preach there also.

This is why I have come. So he traveled throughout Galilee, preaching in their synagogues and driving out demons.

Everyone is looking for you. This is the voice of demand. And to be clear, the people looking for Jesus are not wrong to need him. They have real needs. They're sick. They're suffering.
