from when it is just too damn hot out there politically and

literally I'm Brian Lauter and editor at Slate and this week we're talking about

bathroom bills no you didn't just glitch back to 2016. This is indeed 2024 and Bill's designed to police wear trans people and functionally all people can pee are back in vogue.

Which is weird because remember how when North Carolina's HB 2 was defeated with

corporate boycotts and concert cancellations we thought this particular legislative

approach was dead well it was but then it wasn't.

It's been easy to miss the re-emergence of bathroom bills amid the recent wave of anti-trans and queer state legislation,

but in fact, 12 of them have been passed into law in the last 15 months and this time there's almost

no backlash to be seen. That's the subject of Nico Lange's latest piece for slate.

When Nico pitched me the idea I admit I had no idea this was happening so I was very happy to have them report

out the situation and explain it for us. If you don't already know Nico they're an

award-winning reporter editor essayist author and critic they've written for
