This is a backcountry hunters and anglers podcast in Blast. I'm Hal Herring and

we're here in Boise, Idaho at the Rondivou, and one of the things I've been hunting is

some Alaska voices, and boy did I find them.

So I've got Barry White Hill here who was a 30 years in Alaska.

Well not quite 26 26 and his son Kai who's currently roosting a little bit in

Missoula but grew up in Fairbanks mostly.

Yep, I'm born in Tampa, Idaho.

Two more outdoors people you can't find.

Barry and I've done some big trips, done one big trip that he tried to get me on for years and I finally pulled a trigger on it with my son. And boy, we had quite an adventure. But we're here to talk about Alaska and Barry go ahead and

just introduce yourself sort of and tell us tell us what's going on.

Well thanks how and Tell us what's going on. Well, thanks, Hal. And, you know, I was, I think, equisential, like so many people,

grew up reading Jack London books and listening to people, talk stories especially in Alaska and so it's interesting I've always had a little voice in my head that said and I've listened to this voice it said it told me at a young age I was going to die in Alaska

So I could I could be a hundred and die but I knew I was destined for there. So you're still alive, so you still got your chance.

I'm running good country.

Yeah.

Well, you grew up, you were a hardcore hunter and fisherman

before you ever hit it north.

Well, or a hunter, I remember when my parents were public teachers and back in the day they only get paid on a nine month contract.

So my father, who was a fervent fly fisherman augmented the the family diet from the

end of school till the next paycheck first of October and we we almost resided solely on trout so I kind of got burned out that could turn a man toward red meat and it did and I dreamed it an early age about having elk and deer stakes and we didn't go to the store and buy beef.

It was all a wild game.

Wow, yeah.
