Hello and welcome to the second programme in my series

Out in the World. I'm the Reverend Richard Coles and my perhaps vaulting ambition

is to explore the global history of same-sex relations

from ancient Egypt to the shifting attitudes of the present day.

Last time we heard a lot about a western led journey of progress

towards more accepting attitudes to gay identity, but that tells only a part of the story.

Should we be telling other countries how to treat gay people?

Homosexuality is illegal in 76 countries around the world, including 38

Commonwealth countries. A new organisation launches today here in the UK

and putting a stop to people around the world.

National Radio in Britain reporting the launch of Colliderscope,

a charitable trust set up with the express intention of harnessing

political energy to support lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered individuals around the world.

And all based as the charity's director, Lance Price, acknowledges

on an assumption that the moral high ground is theirs.

It is an assumption, and it's an assumption that we make

and that we have to make with enormous care and enormous caution.

But if you believe, as I do, that human rights are indivisible

and therefore they apply to all of us, then LGBT rights
