Here are the gates. This place is called

a Jelani house, you know, named after the family.

And we're entering the home where my parents lived when I was born.

This is the place my grandfather built in the 60s.

And this is where I was brought while the war wasn't full swing.

Pakistan launched a full-scale war against India.

India, a predatory aggressor, a country that has never reconciled herself to Pakistan,

has committed take-integration for the third time on the fall of my life.

The thing about my birth in December 1971 is that

it was at a time when India and Pakistan were at war.

And Pakistan was losing half of his territory,

which was then called East Pakistan and became independent as Bangladesh.

I mean throughout my adult life, every time I've written my date of birth as 1971,

I've automatically linked it to that war.

But I've never really looked into the causes of that war

and whether Pakistan learned any lessons from it.

And that's what I'm trying to do on this journey,

exploring what happened 40 years ago

and whether it is still relevant to the challenges Pakistan faces today.
