Summary

New Discourses Bullets, Ep. 108 America is at a crossroads, and how it chooses may affect the fate of the entire world. Though there are different ways to conceive of the choice that lies before us, one is that we will have to choose between catharsis and civilization. It's unlikely we can have both, so this choice is incredibly important and deadly serious. If we choose catharsis, a sweet release of all our anger and frustration from the oppression and chaos of Woke Marxism, we will likely upset the balance required to maintain our civilization. If we choose civilization, we will have a real chance of climbing out of this, but we'll also have to swallow many of our feelings and restrain ourselves against our passions. In this episode of New Discourses Bullets, host James Lindsay offers a short introduction to this choice. Join him in choosing well. New book! Hey there everybody. James Lindsay here. You are listening to New Discourses Bullets, where I give you a short bullet point-like summary of a single topic relevant to woke Marxism that we all need

0:21.7

to understand so we can stop this thing. And this is a heavy episode today. This one's important.

0:28.2

This one's heavy. So, you know, get ready to kind of sit back and absorb this one, mull it over,

0:34.2

chew on it, think about it, share it. This is one of the deeper ones. I thought

0:37.8

about doing a longer podcast about this. I thought about, and maybe I still will, writing an

0:42.2

essay about this. I think this is a very important idea. And we are at a very dangerous time.

0:49.2

A lot of people think Trump just won the 2024 election. Everything's great. We're on cloud nine. We're happy.

0:57.5

And unfortunately, we have a hard choice in front of us. A lot of people, and you can see this

1:06.7

split, there's a fracture line in the kind of anti-woke coalition. And we could talk about that

1:11.4

and of itself a lot, the fracture line that they're going to try to break the coalition, the Trump

1:17.6

supporting or even not even just Trump supporting, the anti-woke coalition. There's a deep

1:22.8

fracture line. And that fracture line is basically drawn between do we love freedom or are we going to

1:29.6

assert a particular vision of virtue on our society to try to get this recovery?

1:36.2

And this is a real choice.

1:37.6

But it's deeper than that too.

1:39.4

It's not just which vision for the future do we want.

1:42.2

Do we want to follow the path where we know who we are

1:44.5

as Americans, if we're American, or if we're taking the American freedom model or liberty

1:49.0

model as our standard? Do we want to follow that path, which means that we're going to have

1:54.0

freedom, or do we want to take a different path where that path is going to write the wrongs

1:59.7

of the past several years or decades. Do we take some of both?

2:04.4

Can we take some of both? These are hard questions. But the point here is that what we have is a
