The Met Gala is of course the biggest fashion event of the year.

And a friend recently was like, what is the Met Gala?

Like, are they actually at the Met?

And the answer is, yeah, all the celebrities and all the guests who are showing out $50,000

for a ticket, they are all there to support the Costume Institute, the Metropolitan Museum's

Fashion Collection.

Which means that all these glamorous guests are parading up those fancy carpeted steps

to go see the fashion exhibit on display.

Which means they are all going to see the handy work of Joyce Fun.

My name is Joyce Fun.

I'm a senior research associate of installation at the Costume Institute at the Metropolitan

Museum of Art.

Far below where the red carpet festivities would take place in the basement of the Met

in a windowless studio, Joyce Fun dresses the mannequins for the fashion exhibits.

We're in the installation studio of the Costume Institute and this is where we dress the mannequins

for display in exhibitions and also for photography.

So I'm here year round and then when we get to preparing the spring exhibition, which

is our largest, I usually bring in at least one dressing assistant.

You might think, as I did, what?

How does one person, let alone multiple people, spend all day dressing mannequins?

But it takes a long time to put a mannequin in an outfit if you're doing it right.
