Well, when I was early in my 20s, it dawned on me that the possibility exists that I could become a father.

I wasn't dating at the time, wasn't married, but I was in a situation where I realized, but it is conceivably possible.

And I don't assume that God's going to give me a wife. I didn't assume he was going to give me one. I didn't know that.

But I just thought, you know what, the possibility exists that I could get married and become a dad and have kids.

And when that possibility rose up my heart that that's a distinct possibility. It kind of filled me with

some anxiety because I'm like I don't know what that looks like to be a dad that's present.

And that's not a knock on my dad. My dad was a good guy and taught us good things in a lot of ways but my

parents divorced when I was young and so a lot of those kind of key critical moments

of development in my life my dad wasn't there so to imagine a father present in those key moments. I'm like I don't even know what that would look like I don't even know what I would do

Stepping into that role kind of feels me as anxiety. I don't know how to do that and so I realized well if the possibility exists

that I could enter that role I got to figure something out so I started studying

dads and by doing that I didn't look at the dads I studied, because I realize everyone loves to give advice.

And there may be guys be like, I'll tell you the secret, you're like, yeah, how's that working out with your kids?

Right? So like, I don't necessarily believe what you're going to say.

Let's just see what's happening with the children.

So I would watch people's kids. And I was a youth pastor of the children. So I would watch people's kids and I was a youth pastor at the time and I started

watching these kids and I would look for the ones that I just thought were well-adjusted

human beings and sure enough there were several and the ones that I was drawn to they had this wonderful mix of humility and confidence

That they confidently walked in the room like shoulders back head up happy to meet you but they didn't stroll in that they
