The bread and butter of a well-tended garden is mulch.

Without it, we would be busy watering, we'd be busy weeding, we'd be doing all sorts

of things that we really don't have to do, and I have a confession to make to all of

you listening.

I didn't use mulch for the first few years when I gardened, because I just had no idea

that you were supposed to, or that it was a good idea.

So if you're in that position and you're on the fence of using mulch, maybe you didn't

use it this season, I wouldn't feel too ashamed, because I did it for years, and I mean,

I still had good results, but come on, you know, it was a little bit of a slow poke on

picking up on this mulching habit.

So we're going to talk today about the types of mulch that you can use, and I'm going to

focus primarily on organic mulch.

Mulch made out of organic matter, because really, in my view, that is the only sort of mulch

you should be using.

So first of all, we are going to talk about straw mulch.

You have a big difference here between straw and hay, as well as the type of plant that

you're using.

So you can get wheat, oat, or rice.

Hay can make up a good amount of the straw, but it also has a lot of seeds.

So you can get pre-cleaned straw.

You actually used to be able to get it on the epic gardening store, on the garden straw

minis, or the garden straw big bags, but we sold out of maybe 12,000 bags of that straw,
