French philosophers Jean-Jacques Rousseau famously wrote that man is born free and everywhere he is in chains.

Rousseau believed that human beings are, to put it in far less elegant 21st century language,

born basically good and that it's society, societal rules and

institutions that corrupt us. The Oregon Governor Tina Kotek did not quote

Rousseau earlier this month as she was signing a law to
