| 0:46.9 | utilize. So first, what is perfectionism? If you identify with that term or that seems like it applies to you, |
| 0:57.5 | then you will probably know it is this constant kind of striving for flawlessness. |
| 1:03.6 | You know, you want to be perfect in all things. |
| 1:05.8 | But the downside of that kind of drive and wanting to be perfect is that, of course, nothing ever is, |
| 1:13.3 | right? There's no such thing as perfect. And so when things are not done perfectly, you're more |
| 1:20.1 | likely to harshly criticize yourself, harshly interact with others, even at times overall, |
| 1:27.4 | just have feelings of depression. |
| 1:32.2 | Really, perfectionism is mismanaged anxiety. If you are feeling all kinds of uncomfortable |
| 1:38.4 | by that definition, trust me, been there, done that, as a perfectionist in recovery, |
| 1:43.9 | as I say, and I go out of recovery |
| 1:46.6 | minute by minute, day by day. Perfectionism has long since been something that I have |
| 1:53.5 | wrestled with and struggled with and had to learn how to opt out of the struggle that I was |
| 1:59.2 | having with myself while in perfection |
| 2:02.4 | mode. Most black women, I feel like, are high achievers or are working so hard. And for us, |
| 2:10.2 | it may never be or feel like enough. Like, it feels like there's something more we can do. |
| 2:14.5 | I don't know a black woman that doesn't have like a full-time job in two |
| 2:18.1 | side hustles, is raising children or is balancing having a partner, is excelling at their job. |
