Welcome to the Black Girl Burnout podcast. Kelly here. And today, I want you to think about the following phrase.

0:18.3

Endings and beginnings always touch. This was a phrase that was uttered from a app that I use

0:26.6

called Fabulous. I've told you about this before. Part of my morning routine involves this app.

0:32.2

It runs you through like a 10 minute routine, but it includes about three minutes of coaching a day, just inspirational conversation

0:39.5

to kind of motivate you to stay the course with building up really great habits that make up

0:44.9

a morning routine. And that has been one of the phrases from the coaching that has always stayed

0:51.7

with me and is really at the heart of today's episode,

0:55.6

which is all about how to opt out of endings. And when I say opting out of endings,

0:59.8

I don't mean that things can't end. But the way that we language endings, the way, the story we

1:06.6

tell around endings, that it's such a negative event. And this phrase, endings and beginnings

1:13.7

always touch, is a nice invitation for us to think about what are we beginning by having an

1:23.2

ending. A couple of weeks ago, I talked about how to opt out of losses. And that episode got a lot of

1:30.3

reaction from folks. There was a lot of chatter on it. Now on Spotify, you can actually react to

1:37.1

the episode in real time. And there's always poll questions and things. And so many of you

1:42.4

were really struck by that episode about how to opt out

1:47.0

of losses because it came from a social media post I had seen where a person had said,

1:53.0

not all losses are bad. It talked about how sometimes losses facilitate healing,

2:04.2

sometimes a loss is a gift. And in that same vein, I want us to rethink about the word ending and the thoughts that come up with that word

2:12.2

and how oftentimes we're afraid of an ending. You know, if it's not a quote unquote happy ending,

2:18.9

then all other kinds of endings are sad. We think about endings of relationships,

2:26.1

ending of maybe jobs or career choices, ending of different phases in our lives. You know,

2:31.8

maybe we're ending high school, then we end college that
