| 0:47.1 | birthright, which is, as I've said, many a times, beauty and joy and community and softness and all of those things is therapy. I really do think that |
| 1:01.1 | having a good therapist or engaging in therapy at least once in your life will go a long way |
| 1:07.9 | with the right therapist to heal a lot of the wounds that we all carry, |
| 1:13.2 | but particularly that we can carry as black women that are intergenerational, |
| 1:17.4 | and really push us forward into pursuing the lives that light us up and bring us joy. |
| 1:24.2 | Now, I understand finding a therapist is so difficult for many women of color, myself included. |
| 1:33.2 | It was hard for me to find a therapist. |
| 1:36.1 | And there's no shortage of articles that really confirm that truth. |
| 1:40.9 | That really we live in a world where it looks like almost 80% of therapists |
| 1:47.6 | are white. |
| 1:50.8 | Particularly when we're talking about psychologists, it's even higher. |
| 1:54.5 | And while we may not mind having a white therapist, what's even more troubling is some |
| 2:00.6 | of those therapists have no clue how to be culturally |
| 2:03.6 | competent or how to even be sensitive to the unique traumas of black Americans and black people |
