Welcome to the Black Al Burnout podcast, Kelly here. And today I want to talk about what is the story you want to tell yourself as you close out 2024 and what narratives are you rewriting for 2025?

0:14.3

So as we get ready for a new year, no matter when you're listening to this or you're starting a new month, there was always opportunity for us to

0:20.9

pause and think about what is the story that is being told about myself that I'm participating in,

0:26.9

what is the story I want to rewrite? And along with our theme for December, which is reflect and

0:33.6

release and release and reflect, what do I want to release that weighs me down? And I'm here to

0:40.0

tell you that a lot of those things may be the stories and the narratives that you are opting

0:47.3

into, that you shouldn't be, that you are passively allowing to be created about you. And some of those instances are stories that we are

0:57.1

creating ourselves. And so today's episode is all about how to opt into rewriting your narrative

1:04.6

and feeling empowered while you do it. And that's what I want to talk about. I don't want you

1:10.2

1:12.1

a new month, a new day that stops today. And part of that is about rewriting narratives to create

1:18.8

space for growth and healing. I know for me, I'm constantly rewriting the narrative about myself,

1:24.6

about my life. And I keep rewriting narratives. I have learned to embrace softness

1:30.9

versus hardness. I've developed, as I told you, my own affirmation for all of next year,

1:37.2

probably for the rest of my life, that when things get hard, I become soft. That's a narrative I

1:42.9

had to rewrite. I really felt like pushing being a warrior.

1:48.0

My name, Kelly, is Gaelic and it can mean in some connotations, particularly the way I spell it,

1:53.8

female warrior. And I was really bought into that as a part of my identity, that I'm a fighter.

1:59.4

And I am a fighter, but this belief that I have

2:03.0

to be harsh while advocating, I would say maybe now instead of saying I'm a fighter, I'm an advocate,

2:09.2

but that means I have to be harsh or that I have to always have my guard up, my armor ready,

2:15.6

waiting to come at somebody. that narrative just isn't attractive
