Hello, med students. My name is Zach Olson and thank you for downloading this month's deep dive.

0:07.0

This episode is sponsored by Pearson Rabbit's Insurance. One of the top financial items on your residency

0:13.8

to-do list is to get set up with disability and life insurance early. And I cannot emphasize enough how important it is to pick an

0:23.5

agent that knows what they are doing, an agent you can trust. Disability insurance is very complicated,

0:30.1

and each and every one of you listening right now has different factors that need to be

0:34.9

considered when you get ready to purchase this. Medical history,

0:39.2

career plans, access to things like guaranteed standard issue policies, and all sorts of other

0:45.6

factors, you must have an agent that knows what they are doing. You don't want to be talking to

0:51.0

some agent that is captive to only one insurance company and looks

0:55.3

1:00.9

questions that they need to ask you about and all of a sudden you can't be insured anymore.

1:06.4

Who you talk to matters. Go to www.personravitz.com, get in touch, and let them coach you so you can make the best

1:15.7

disability and life insurance choice for you. Now, back to our deep dive. This might be controversial.

1:24.4

1:29.9

we are going to talk about the opiate epidemic, opiate use disorder. And specifically, we're

1:36.3

going to be talking a lot about buprenorphin, naloxone, brand name, Suboxone. But before we

1:41.9

even get to that point, the most important thing that you need to

1:45.1

understand as a med student, as a resident, is the sheer scope of this opiate epidemic that you

1:53.2

keep hearing about. Because you might not really understand it yet. But just to be very clear,

1:58.5

opiate overdose, just overdose, none of the opiate other opiate

2:02.5

related harms, but opiate overdose is the number one cause of death in adults under the age

2:10.0

of 50.
