The Big 12 regular season race is heading down to the wire. I'm Pete Mundo on Heartland College

Sports. He is Matthew Postons, our lead Big 12 basketball rider. There is one Saturday left in the

regular season and it will come down to either Houston or Iowa State. It has been a busy week of basketball. Right now when you look at

the standings, Houston is one game ahead of Iowa State, but we'll see what happens on Saturday.

Iowa State goes on the road to play Kansas State and then Houston hosts Kansas. So Matthew,

my first thought here is, one, how much do you think the regular season title

really matters? Like Houston's, I think, got a one seed locked up, even if they lose on Saturday to

Kansas. So does it really matter? Do you think they really want it? Does Kelvin Samson really want

that regular season title? Yeah, I think they really do. I mean, when you think they really want it? Does Kelvin Samson really want that regular season title?

Yeah, I think they really do. I mean, when you think about them moving into a new conference and, in essence, moving up from a mid-major to a high major, I think it is a big deal to them, honestly.

You know, you see them celebrate when they got a share of the championship when they beat UCF on Wednesday night.

I think they want more.

I think for them it's also an opportunity.

You know, right now they're projected to be a one seed.

But there's also the opportunity, depending upon what happens around the country, the next week and a half, to be the number one overall seed.

And that could make your path a little bit easier for them you know if there are one seed

they're going to be in the south region which means they'll go through Dallas and that's an

important piece of the puzzle too it allows more their fans to come to Dallas to support them

and gives them a bit more of a home court advantage than going through

any one of the other three regions. So I think it remains of vital importance to Houston,

not just to solidify themselves as a number one seed, but also I think bragging rights to them.
