I'm excited to share with you this bonus episode of Once Upon a Crime.

I was given the opportunity to hold a live recording of the podcast at CrimeCon 2019 in New

Orleans.

Because there were so many great guest lined up to be at CrimeCon, I took the opportunity

to invite two of them to be part of this live recording.

Skyborg Men is an award-winning director and cinematographer who has shot documentary

films all over the world.

Some of the notable films she has produced include Mumia, Long Distance Revolutionary

about the life of the former death row inmate Mumia Abu Jamal, and a documentary film about

the band Quiet Riot.

And she's also the director of the very popular and buzzed about documentary abducted in

plain sight that was released on Netflix this year.

Jan Broberg, the main subject of abducted in plain sight, was just eight years old when

her family met Robert Birchtold, who became obsessed with young Jan and said about manipulating

her entire family in order to have access to her.

He would later abduct her not once but twice.

The documentary, abducted in plain sight, tells the story of the Broberg family and Jan's

brainwashing and sexual molestation by Birchtold.

I was honored to interview both Sky and Jan for this live recording.

He was a fascinating look into the psychology of a child sexual predator, grooming, and

how a skilled perpetrator can manipulate an entire family to exert his will.
