She was supportive of the film all the way through, actually even, you know, went forward with an announcement that the film was going to be in Sundance before Sundance announced it.

And so we were really surprised when things changed.

We were blindsided and shocked, but like, given, you know, that we study these things,

we shouldn't have been.

Veteran documentary filmmakers Amy Zering and Kirby Dick lived the dream of having Oprah Winfrey

sign on as executive producer of their film On the Record, which focuses on several

women who say they were raped by music mogul Russell Simmons.

But for the filmmakers, the dream turned dark. Just days before on the record was set to premiere

at Sundance, Oprah withdrew her support and Apple dropped its deal to release the movie. Dickens

Earing remembered the shock of that setback and explain their decision to go to Sundance anyway.

They say they still don't know exactly why Oprah bailed on the film, which is now streaming on the newly launched HBO Max.

But first on the news banter, someone got a deal from Apple, and their names are Leo and Marty.

Matt Bellany. Hello, Matt. Hi there. So Matt, as you know, the streaming wars are heating up.

HBO Max has come into existence this week. Finally, theoretically, I can get HBO Max.

It's just a question of figuring out how since I have a Roku box and you can't, anyway,

it's all very complicated. Some people are getting it apparently and saying, yay, I can see

friends and other people are like, how the heck do I get this thing? And some of those people

who are saying that, by the way, are professionals who cover this business or in this business. So it's not quite so clear how

this is going to work. But meanwhile, Apple has been making some big spends, making some noise,

wanting to remind everybody, I suppose, that they're in the game.
