Welcome to Karen Hunter's awesome. There's been a lot of commentary around reparations, whether they're old, who should get it, why it should happen. And I'm probably going to be talking about this until it does happen

in this space and beyond. But I wanted to also read a letter from a person who was formerly

enslaved and what they had to say about it. So among the conversation, I'm going to read a letter

that you probably never heard before. And this is part of the journey that we're on of discovery and knowing and learning and growing

and having opinions formed out of actual knowledge.

I love that.

I don't believe that this country has the appetite or the soul to actually do

what's right, but I'm not asking. I don't believe we should ask for anything. I believe we should

take what's ours. And I also believe that we have everything that we need to build the future

that we want to build on. I don't want to wait for anyone to come and hand us

what is owed.

Now, that's it, we should continue to fight.

Every candidate running for president should answer the question,

should have a plan for reparations

for descendants of enslaved people in this country.

But that said, I think there was just recently

a hearing before Congress that

featured Tana Hasi Coates, who wrote what I believe is the quintessential piece on the reason why

reparations is owed and it's called the case for reparations. And he wrote that while at the
