God, since 2009 I've been on my own,

and part of that was a conscious decision

to have the time to kind of deal with all of these stories I had told myself and let them go and to become the version of myself I wanted to become and I don't think we a lot of us have that luxury to kind of do that much self-work but for me it's it was important I just

wanted to I wanted to have my own self-power. This is Shelby Stanger a journalist by

trade and training and host of her very own

podcast, Wild Ideas Worth Living. This episode is called On Paper because

Shelby herself says that she gave up a lot in her life that looked

good on paper in order to have this self-power that she talks about. For Shelby,

what looked good on paper, a job that looked fantastic in other people's eyes

and that she told herself should look great in her own, resulted in a dissonance that led

her to make a big life change. It's a feeling we can all relate to

that friction in her mind when everything is not as it appears. This term

looking good on paper makes me want to question some of what our society values.
