Hello there, I'm Chuck Todd. This is the Chuck Todd cast. So today we're talking to a new

comer to the House, but politics is then as DNA. So joining me today is Congressman

elected Robert Menendez Jr. His dad is Senator Bob Menendez who also once held this New

Jersey 8th District Congressional seat. Most of it, everything gets redrawn a little

bit here and there. The district covers Jersey City, Hoboken, and Union City where Bob

was also mayor. Robin Bob will be the only parent child duo in the 170th Congress. And

according to the New York Times, there have been only a handful in our nation's history

who have served at the same time as their parents. So Robin Menendez, welcome to the

talk. Thanks so much for having me to play. So, you know, it's interesting. My son is 15.

My daughter is 18 and neither one of them want to go into my line of work or my wife's

sleight of work. Take me back to teenager Rob Menendez when you were 15 or 18 because

I just have curious here, when you were 15 or 18, were you like, no way I'm doing that

or were you always sort of, I'm intrigued by what dad does for a living.

No, at least I was probably where your children are today, right? You're trying to map out

your own course. You respect the work that your folks do. My mom was a school teacher

until she retired a couple of years ago. And you know, you're trying to envision your

own pathway. And so I always appreciate the opportunities that I had growing up around

two parents who were committed to public service. But I never saw myself definitely at

that age running for public office. You know, it was just figuring out what I was going

to do next. And at that time, I kept sure kids are talking about college and those next

steps. But, you know, you grow when you see the world differently as you get older. And

for me, having my own children sort of crystallize what I want to do next and what led to this
