Hey guys, this one is for you.

In our episode about the Titanic Disaster, I told you about how history is full of disasters

caused both by nature and by human mistakes.

And of course, there are also many caused by a combination of both of these elements.

The sinking of the Titanic was that kind of disaster.

If you haven't heard that story yet, you can hear it back in episode 57.

The story I'm going to tell you in this episode for the Wiley Kids is one about a disaster

caused by human mistakes and downright foolishness.

This disaster caused huge long lasting and maybe even permanent damage to the environment.

This is the story of the Exxon Valdez oil spill of 1989.

And before I tell you the story, I need to say thank you to several important sources

for helping me with firsthand information for this episode.

One of them was a gentleman who was in the coast guard at the time of the disaster.

He kindly sent me information about what happened, which helped me to accurately sort through

the timeline of events.
