Summary

Ron McGovney is the original Metallica bassist, and it was his garage that not only hosted auditions for the band but also served as their first rehearsal space! Ron recounts how he met James Hetfield in junior high, what happened to their highschool band, Leather Charm, his first introduction to drummer Lars Ulrich (and what he thought when he heard Lars play), and how Dave Mustaine ended up in Metallica. 0:17.8	July 6th to be exact. It was 36 years ago on July 6th, 1982 that Metallica recorded the No Life to Leather demo
0:27.8	at a little studio in Tuston, California called Shatto East Studio. Yeah, one of the most famous bands in Rock and Roll history.
0:34.8	They're very first little EP 36 years ago. So Tuston, California is an orange county, California, not far from Disneyland.
0:42.8	And what's so special about this demo is that it features original Metallica bassist Ron McGovny.

1:01.8	And to mark this killer anniversary, once again, I've got the original OG Metallica bass player Ron McGovny on the show today.
1:08.8	He was in Metallica with James and Lars and Dave Mustaine all the way back in 1982. And Ron's got some incredible stories about how Metallica got started from how he and James Hatfield met and became friends in junior high.
1:19.8	Just starting up their own bands and Ron's parents garage to meeting Lars Ulrich to Dave Mustaine joining his guitar player.
1:25.8	He's got stories with their first gigs right down to how Ron got them on the bill at the whiskey a go-go with Saxon.
