Next season's Lakers are going to start getting assembled.

I'm going to go through the key dates on today's show, plus get into what the Lakers

can learn from the NICS championship run.

Again, let's start here. now that the championship has been settled we know what's happening what's next where do we go from here

on the nba calendar well first and foremost the lakers can now negotiate with their own free agents

they can do that right now they are allowed to to do so. So what that means is that for

players such as LeBron James, Austin Reeves, I'm going to talk about a minute. We're assuming he is

going to opt out of that player option. Pretty safe assumption there. But for the Lakers own

free agents, LeBron James, Rui Hachamura, Luke Canard, Maxi Kleba, right? The Lakers can negotiate with all of these

players. I know on your screen right now, you're seeing players like Dwight Howard, Markief Morris,

Dion Waiters, guys like that. It's weird. I know it's perfectly normal, though. It's what happens

if you're an above-the-cap team. Teams don't renounce the rights to players unless they drop below the cap because that's the only way that it actually matters against their spending power is if they do drop below the cap. So if the Lakers operate as a below the cap team, it'll be kind of strange, but they're going to renounce the rights to Jared Dudley, who is now a coach in the NBA. And the renounce rights to Dwight Howard, there was just never any reason to do so before now

because they were always an above the cap team.

So that's the explanation for that.

But the Lakers own free agents, Rui, LeBron, Maxi, Luke Canard, etc.

They can start the negotiation process with them. Now, the NBA

draft is coming up June 23rd and 24th. Right now, the Lakers do have the 25th pick in the draft.
