All right guys welcome back nice to be with you again if you are new to this show first of all welcome so glad you're here this is young heretics. It's the classical education you didn't know you were missing all the cool stuff from the ancient world and thereafter all the intellectual inheritance of Athens and Jerusalem all the greatness of the West and the wisdom of the Western canon

that is so maligned and neglected in many of our schools, stuff that maybe you thought wasn't for you,

that was only for PhD students or maybe even worse was backwards and

superstitious and evil and racist and heartless all that stuff is here in all

its glory for you on young heretics.

You'll discover that none of the evil things they say about it are true.

The Western canon is one of our great sources of wisdom perhaps our great central source of

wisdom for those of us that are in the West and for navigating our tumultuous

modern times and we have just gotten to the end of, I think, one of our best series, one of the most important

sections I've ever done on Young Herritics, and that was our series on the Cardinal

Virtues.

I've said before, and I'll say it again that virtue is

one of our most needful concepts because it is a positive good because it's a

goal to aim at. It's not just like an explanation of why the other team is bad. It's not

just a lament over how everything is falling apart. It's a North Star. It's a

positive. It's a way to shape yourself into the best human being you can be, it's about how to be good

at being human and attain the unique satisfaction which comes with being a rational animal, and we have

been spending weeks now talking about the cardinal virtues talking about the

different aithicai aortai which is ethical excellences in Greek and how they

apply to the different parts of the soul.
