Hi this is Josh Marshall and this is the Josh Marshall podcast with Kate Riga. We are just starting,

we have just started off the Johnson era on Capitol Hill and I guess we're about a week in

and it's funny. On the one hand it's a little hard to get used to going back to the sort of the

old style of Congress when there's not, when Congress isn't shut down, right? When you just,

you're back to having a speaker of the house and you're not in this daily drama with Republican

caucus meetings and day after day, you know each day you have a new one day speakership with some

new dude who goes down in flames. So suddenly you have Mike Johnson, right? And everything seems

kind of calm in a way and you know I was actually on Chris Hayes show last night and I was saying

there's this funny thing because on the one hand as we have found out quite clearly,

Johnson is just as conservative as the most conservative freedom caucus dude. I mean he is

absolutely down the line on abortion, all of the gender trans gay rights stuff. He played a key role

in the Trump coup. So like he's no he's no less extreme than than those guys and yet he's not one

of these guys who's who's going on Twitter and posting like Pepe the Frog memes, right? He's not

antique like that. He is not, he doesn't carry himself in a transgressive way like those people

do. So I was sort of surprised that his first gambit was this thing not only separating Ukraine
