Over in our Facebook page the other day Raquel from San Francisco told

us that recently she'd attended a class on urban gardening. And in this class they talked

about bees and other insects and someone mentioned the word

Pupa. Pupa. Now the pupil stage of an insect's life occurs between the larval stage and adulthood.

While the insect is a pupa, it's usually immobile,

and it's also encased in a protective covering.

And inside, all these marvelous chemical processes are going on. The creature's

larval structures are breaking down as it reshapes itself into an adult.

Anyway, Rakell wondered about that word pupa. Does it have anything to do, she asked, with the word pupil?

As in student, after all, they're both young and they're not quite shaped as adults.
