I had just arrived on the metro at Newcastle Airport for my flight to Antalya in Turkey. I should explain that right now I am in one of the most

geographically intriguing places on the planet. Just over to my extreme left, I can just see a

fragment of Saudi Arabia. Looking across the water, which is the Gulf of Akaba, there's Egypt.

That's probably the most visible place. Really quite close, almost close enough to touch.

I'm enjoying the site of Israel. I am in Jordan, though, in the city of Aqaba and actually at a very nice resort hotel

called the Minara, which is great, apart from the fact it's got quite a lot of music playing
