Welcome back to TVTL here on NewsTalk 710 Cairo. I'm Luke Burbank and the sounds of the Curtis High marching band can only mean one thing and that is that we have reached the end of our Catch My Blue Thunder disease contest.

First though we are super honored and super excited to welcome to the show a guy who well really is most responsible for this contest because he's the one who actually wrote this song Catch My Disease. His name is Ben Lee. Hi Ben.

Great. Thanks very much for coming on TVTL and thanks for letting us use your song for our theme although we didn't actually I guess really ask.

Yeah I mean I allowed it more by just not taking legal action.

That for us is just as good as your approval. When you wrote the song Catch My Disease I mean were you thinking to yourself at the time how can I craft this so it makes for good high school band music?

Well I mean you know I come from a history of not like a high school orchestra but you know I started my first band with a 14.

So I'm always trying to capture that feeling of like you know discovery of music just the joy of when you first really start getting into songs.

And so in a way like you've got to have that eternal adolescent living somewhere inside you and that so you're trying to please.

Well I kind of meant that as a joke but it sounds like you actually you actually are going for that sort of thing and it seems like a pretty natural fit to you that you have a bunch of 15 year olds out in Seattle you know jamming out to your music.

Well that's the biggest honor you know way.

Tell me a little bit about when you actually did write the song Catch My Disease. What do you remember about that? How old were you? What was going on in your life?

I mean I wrote it it's now I'm not sure if it was like four years ago or something or five years ago.

I was sitting in a motel in San Diego no a Mona California sorry as a hotel is right by the freeway.

I think all of all of Pomona is right by the freeway.

There was a last show of a tour and just all it just all clicked really quickly and sound checked that night sort of finished it off and it was like there was a joy to that whole tour and it was the last show.

And it's like the song feels like a celebration you know and that's kind of I guess the feeling of going for it.

Do you ever hear your songs or see your songs being played somewhere and you're just horrified?

Only once I think there was a end of the wild and milk commercial.
