A San Diego man faces arson and first-degree murder charges in a house fire that killed his parents and sister.

Housewife Jolly Joseph has confessed to murdering at least six people over 14 years and police are now investigating her in relation to more deaths.

Finally, in Los Angeles, California, a jury delivers a death sentence in the case of serial killer Michael Garjulo, nicknamed the Hollywood Ripper due to the frenzy of his knife attacks.

NBC San Diego reports that 26-year-old Wilbur Romero was arrested this Friday, October 18th.

He is facing charges in the deaths of his parents, Jose Antonio Romero and Nicolassa Mayo, as well as his sister Iris Crystal Romero, all of whom perished in a house fire.

Two other siblings, Angel and Wendy, survived and were hospitalized.

The Romero family home burned down during the early hours of Sunday, October 13th, 2019.

Wilbur, the oldest child, had reportedly been sleeping outside of the house and somehow managed to escape and raise the alarm.

As the house was quickly engulfed by flames, neighbors rushed to help, breaking a window in an attempt to allow any survivor to be arrested.

Jose Antonio Romero and his wife, Nicolassa Mayo, perished in the fire.

Their 21-year-old daughter, Iris Crystal Romero, used her body to shield her 17-year-old brother, Angel, from the fire.

She was taken to the hospital in critical condition and remained on life support until she passed away from her injuries this Wednesday, October 16th.

Angel, Wilbur, and 24-year-old Wendy were injured in the fire and were hospitalized.

As of this weekend, Angel and Wendy Romero remain in the hospital.

Wilbur's injuries were the least serious and he was quickly discharged and even spoke at a vigil held on the 15th to honor his parents and sister.

Fire investigators initially ruled out Arson, pointing to faulty security measures that prevented the family from escaping the house.

The Romero House had no working smoke alarms. Additionally, the security bars on the windows were not up to code, which required them to have an emergency lever to allow escape through the windows.
