I'm John Bash.

Born Chang at Gornjee Chang joins me and we're very pleased to welcome Cleopascal of the

Foundation for the Defense of Democracy just back from the Indo-Pacific in particular

on an island that is the United States of America, Sipan Island, Garapana, the capital.

In July of 1944, the Americans spent blood and treasure to capture this island from the

Imperial Japanese who ran a defense plan like the rest of the islands in this region of

dying to the last man and causing as many casualties as possible.

Today, however, the Japanese are allied with the U.S. and are allies and China is the threat.

You send a photograph that's reproduced in a Canadian newspaper, The Guardian, of

the capital, Garapana.

And it's a wind-swept area.

You can see right on the coast of the Pacific and there's very beautiful lush jungle behind.

And then suddenly, on the right hand of this picture, there's this grotesque building sticking

up.

It looks like giants live in it.
