0:24.2	the ship seemed very solid. I scrambled up the stairs as soon as I got awake and we couldn't
0:38.5	see the land but the ship was stopped and anchored. And there was quite a fog on the
0:48.1	bay. But as you looked up you could see this breathtaking view above the fog. The
0:55.2	sun was shining on Mount Fuji. It was the most beautiful sight, some surprising sight

1:46.0	Hi trees, it's Monday morning, November 15th. We're in the Indie from Uma, Arizona.
1:54.0	I've been down here about a week and we're going to get settled in. So maybe I thought
1:59.6	I'd start to attempt it. I realize I'm not a storyteller and I thought I'd just
2:04.4	start to tell you about the situations and the times and the different experiences.
2:09.8	And you're the one that's going to have to make a story out of it.
2:18.3	The story starts in the late fall of 1944. I just turned 18 in October. I received my
2:29.2	greetings from Uncle Sam about two weeks after my 18th birthday and would have soon
2:34.4	on my way to a small army base just south of Denver. During that summer of 1945 the war
2:45.0	in Japan was starting to go our way. We moved troops from the European theater under
3:03.7	the South Pacific. There was many casualties. During the month of July 1945 and into the
3:24.6	first part of August we sent bomber after bomber over Japan with fire bombs literally burning
3:33.6	their cities to the ground. It was definitely a scorched-stereth policy.
3:38.0	I was praying that peace be now restored to the world. It wasn't much left to the cities.
3:45.8	I met God willing to preserve it always.
3:52.4	In the month of August I think it's about the middle or to the latter part of it. We had
