Hello, everyone. Welcome to Slash Film Weekly. It's Wednesday, May 20th, 2026. On today's episode of the show, I'm going to give a little plug for a movie that we didn't have time to record a full discussion about. We'll head back into Jacobs Trailer Park for some reactions to some recent movie trailers. And then we'll have a discussion about the new horror film Obsession and conclude by presenting an interview with Obsession writer-director, Curry Barker. My name is Ben Pearson. I'm an editor at slashfilm.com.

0:25.8

And I'm putting this episode together a couple days earlier than usual. So forgive me if any

0:30.4

major news hits between Monday afternoon and Wednesday morning, because that will not be

0:35.4

included here. If it's really big, we'll talk about it on next week's episode.

0:39.6

We're on a bit of a shortened schedule today due to some behind-the-scenes work stuff.

0:45.1

So we're only going to feature one big movie discussion this week.

0:49.4

But I wanted to give a quick shout out to a new film called Is God Is that opened this past Friday.

0:54.7

It's written and directed by Alicia Harris.

0:57.4

It's her first feature.

0:59.5

And it's based on her play of the same name.

1:02.1

And I thought it was a really solid revenge slash road movie, especially for an adaptation of

1:07.0

a play because sometimes those can feel really un-cinematic, I guess, and leave me wondering

1:13.4

why the people even bothered making them into a movie and kind of jumping formats like that.

1:19.4

But I did not have that thought a single time here.

1:21.7

This is very cinematic.

1:22.7

It's very cool.

1:23.5

It's about two sisters who receive a letter asking them to go visit their mother,

1:27.7

who they thought had died years before.

1:30.0

And when they get there, their mom asks them to kill their father.

1:34.5

And it has a really fiery performance from an actress named Kara Young.

1:39.7

And Mallory Johnson, who plays the other sister, is very good in the movie as well.

1:43.1

There are some familiar faces that you'll recognize. Janelle Monet, Vivica A. Fox, Erica Alexander, and Sterling K. Brown as the father. But anyway, I just wanted to put this on your radar because I think it's a pretty small movie, and I think it deserves some more attention. So that's called Is God Is, and it's in theaters right now. As for the news, I'll provide some links in the show notes to some stuff that I found interesting since the last time we recorded. So check those out if you're interested, but I'm not going to do a play-by-play this week. So let's take a quick break, and then we'll get into the rest of the show. With me now is Slash Film Editor Jacob Hall. Hello, hello. All right, Jacob.
