Summary

The Athletic's Charlie Eccleshare and James Maw join Danny Kelly to reflect on a much needed victory over Aston Villa.

Was the starting lineup on Sunday Spurs' strongest XI? And if it was, where does that leave Dele?

They also debate whether Nuno has regained some credibility. And is Son now the best counter-attacking player in the Premier League?

Plus, we have details of a compensation clause in Nuno's contract, as reported by David Ornstein in The Athletic.

And so last week on the podcast, we described the games against Ennis Nura and

0:38.9

Aston Villa, a bit more familiar, as must win, and they won them both. So from the absolutely

frantic all hands on deck battle stations of last week, which left James looking pale and drawn,

0:52.2

I must say, looking much happier today, James, Does that actually reflect the change in your mood since the North London Derby? Yeah, I look good, don't I? Yeah, absolutely, yeah. Yeah, actually, you know what? I really, really enjoyed the game. I don't want to get too bogged down with Thursday night. You know, they played well against a team. They should have been comfortably. Who cares? But on Sunday against Aftonville, I was really impressed with the way Spurs played it. The first half hour was a bit, a bit stodgy, a bit, a bit hit and miss. It wasn't quite all coming off. And it was a little bit concerned that maybe it was going to be another case of Spurs really kind of struggling to create anything. But from that point onwards, the last hour of the game, I thought spurs were really good. And to be honest, Spurs created the better chances at 0-0-0-1-1 and 2-1. I don't think there was any stage of the game where Spurs were kind of under the cost, really. And, you know, against a decent side who had just beaten Manchester United away the weekend before,

I think you've got to take that as a really good sign.

Yeah, I mean, I don't want us to become one of those podcasts, and I'm sure you wouldn't allow it,

that literally bounces from absolute despair to utter elation.

It's too late.

1:58.6

It's too late. Like somebody who keeps taking too much sugar in their tea without realizing the effect.

2:03.7

But it's okay to smile for us with Spurs fans.

2:06.7

Charlie, from a more neutral point of view, if you like, it was arguably their best performance,

2:13.5

if not their best result.

2:14.4

Manchester City was a better result, you'd argue.

2:16.6

So I'll be the best, at times, it's the best performance of the Aston-Biller, I thought. Yeah, probably at a similar level to that city one, which I think we, you know, we shouldn't forget, as well as being a really good result, was also a really good performance. You know, they had chances, other chances that day as well. Yeah, yesterday looked a lot better. It looked a lot more balanced.

2:39.4

That central midfield area has been a real issue throughout the season from the,

2:43.2

well, what we thought was an Adir against Crystal Palace with the three holders to then probably even more of an Adir against Arsenal where they're just...

2:47.2

With no hold.

2:47.8

Yeah, exactly.
